*MAR 31 - JOHN 18-19 - JESUS: REDEMPTION THROUGH DEATH. *
*1. 18:5b-6 (18:1-11) JESUS: IN GETHSEMANE. “Jesus said to them, I am he.
And Judas also, who delivered him up, was standing with them. 6 When
therefore he said to them I am he, they went backward, and fell to the
ground” (NNT). *By this we see that all the fullness of the Godhead bodily
dwelt in Jesus! What Power and Majesty is here exhibited, Father! We pray
that Your Kingdom be manifested in all the earth in this same measure!
*Hallowed
be your :name.*
*2. 18:12-14 (18:12-27) JESUS: BEFORE THE HIGH PRIEST. “The band therefore
and the colonel, and the officers of the Jews, seized :Jesus and bound him,
13 and led him unto Hannas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who
was high priest that :year. 14 Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the
Jews, that it was expedient that one man die for the people.” *Father, You
make even the wrath of man to praise You. Even an evil man like Balaam
prophesies. *Your :kingdom come.*
*3. 18:36 (18:28-40) JESUS: BEFORE PILATE. “Jesus answered, “:My :kingdom
is not of this :world: if :my :kingdom were of this world, :my :servants
would fight, that I be not delivered to the Jews: but now is :my :kingdom
not hence.” *How troubling this word was to Pilate! The judge became the
judged! Father, we bless You for the spiritual Kingdom You gave to Jesus! *Your
:will be done, As in heaven, so on earth!*
*4. 19:11 (19:1-16a) JESUS: SCOURGED, JUDGED AND DELIVERED. “Jesus
answered him, You would have no authority against me, except it were given
you from above: therefore who delivered me unto you has greater sin.” *Pilate
had the fear of man greater than the fear of God, and therefore resorted to
political expediency. What compromise to truth and principle! O forgive us
Father, that when we fail to practice Your Presence, and when the fear of
man predominates, we too act like Pilate! *Our :daily :bread Give us this
day.*
*5. 19:26-27a (19:16b-27) JESUS: CRUCIFIED AND GARMENTS DIVIDED. “When
Jesus therefore saw his :mother, and the disciple standing by whom he
loved, he said to his :mother, Woman, behold, your :son! 27a Then said he
to the disciple, Behold, your :mother!” *Even in the midst of His soul
travail on our behalf, even unto death, Your Son Jesus thought of and
looked after human need! Father, we bless You for Your Son, and thank You
that You are with us in temptation's hour. *And forgive us our :debts, As
we also have forgiven our :debtors.*
*6. 19:30 (19:28-37) JESUS: HIS DEATH AND PIERCING. “When :Jesus therefore
had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his
head andgave up
his :spirit.” *Jesus accomplished Your will on our behalf for which You
sent Him, Father. How thankful we are that He *finished* the great work of
Redemption. *And bring us not into temptation.*
*7. 19:38 (19:38-42) JESUS: HIS BURIAL. “And after these things Joseph of
Arimathaea, being a disciple of :Jesus, but secretly for :fear of the Jews,
asked :Pilate that he might take away the body of :Jesus: and :Pilate gave
leave. He came therefore, and took away his :body.” *Father, You provided
aforehand for the proper care of the body of Your Son. How tenderly and
carefully Joseph did Your bidding! You leave nothing to *chance*.* **But
deliver us from the evil one!*
*NOTE**: 18:8-9 (18:1-11) JESUS: ALL TRUE DISCIPLES KEPT! “Jesus answered,
I told you that I am **he; if therefore you seek me, let these go, 9 that
the word be fulfilled which he said, [that] Of those whom you have given me
I lost not one.” *What a glorious fulfillment demonstrating Your Keeping
Power O Father! We rest in Your Omnipotence, and know that we too are
secure in Christ.
“*IT IS FINISHED” - My Utmost for His Highest - Oswald Chambers - November

“*I have finished the work which You have given Me to do” - John 17:4*
The death of Jesus Christ is the fulfillment in history of the very mind
and intent of God. There is no place for seeing Jesus Christ as a martyr.
His death was not something that happened to Him - something that might
have been prevented. His death was the very reason He came.
Never build your case for forgiveness on the idea that God is our Father
and He will forgive us because He loves us. That contradicts the revealed
truth of God in Jesus Christ. It makes the Cross unnecessary, and the
redemption “much ado about nothing.” God forgives sin *only* because of the
the death of Christ. God could forgive people in no other way than by the
death of His son, and Jesus is exalted as Savior because of His death. *“We
see Jesus ... **for the suffering of death** crowned with glory and honor
...” *(Hebrews 2:9). The greatest note of triumph ever sounded in the ears
of a startled universe was that sounded on the Cross of Christ - *“It is
finished!” *(John 19:30). That is the final word in the redemption of
humankind.
Anything that lessens or completely obliterates the holiness of God,
through a false view of His love, contradicts the truth of God as revealed
by Jesus Christ. Never allow yourself to believe that Jesus Christ stands
with us, and against God, out of pity and compassion, or that He became a
curse for us out of sympathy for us. Jesus Christ became a curse for us by
divine decree. Our part in realizing the tremendous meaning of His curse is
the conviction of sin. Conviction is given to us as a gift of shame and
repentance; it is the great mercy of God. Jesus Christ hates the sin in
people, and Calvary is the measure of His hatred.
Our Psalm for the day: *91:9-10 (91:1-16) MY REFUGE AND MY FORTRESS.
“Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place - the Most High, who is
my refuge - **10** no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come
near your tent” (ESV). *In *Jesus* You have made us *more than conquerors*,
Father! You were in Christ reconciling the world to Yourself, and in
*You*we do valiantly!
*Hallowed be your :name!** *
