31 - JOHN 18-19 - JESUS: REDEMPTION THROUGH DEATH. </b>
</p>

18:5b-6 (18:1-11) JESUS: IN GETHSEMANE. “Jesus said to them, I am
<i>he</i><span style="font-style: normal;">. And Judas also, who
delivered him up, was standing with them. </span><font style="font-size: 8pt;" size="1"><span style="font-style: normal;">6</span></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;">
When therefore he said to them I am </span></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><i>he</i></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;">,
they went backward, and fell to the ground” (NNT). </span></font></b><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="">By
this we see that all the fullness of the Godhead bodily dwelt in
Jesus! What Power and Majesty is here exhibited, Father! We pray
that Your Kingdom be manifested in all the earth in this same
measure! </span></span></font><b><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><i>Hallowed
be your :name.</i></font></b></p>

JESUS: BEFORE THE HIGH PRIEST. “The band therefore and the
colonel, and the officers of the Jews, seized :Jesus and bound him,
<font style="font-size: 8pt;" size="1">13</font> and led <i>him</i> unto
Hannas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who was high
priest that :year. <font style="font-size: 8pt;" size="1">14</font> Now
Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient
that one man die for the people.” </b><span style="">Father,
You make even the wrath of man to praise You. Even an evil man like
Balaam prophesies. </span><b><i>Your :kingdom come.</i></b></font></p>

BEFORE PILATE. “Jesus answered, “:My :kingdom is not of this
:world: if :my :kingdom were of this world, :my :servants would
fight, that I be not delivered to the Jews: but now is :my :kingdom
not hence.” </b><span style="">How troubling
this word was to Pilate! The judge became the judged! Father, we
bless You for the spiritual Kingdom You gave to Jesus! </span><b><i>Your
:will be done, As in heaven, so on earth!</i></b></font></p>

<font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><b>4. 19:11 (19:1-16a) JESUS:
SCOURGED, JUDGED AND DELIVERED. “Jesus answered him, You would
have no authority against me, except it were given you from above:
therefore who delivered me unto you has greater sin.” </b><span style="">Pilate
had the fear of man greater than the fear of God, and therefore
resorted to political expediency. What compromise to truth and
principle! O forgive us Father, that when we fail to practice Your
Presence, and when the fear of man predominates, we too act like
Pilate! </span><b><i>Our :daily :bread Give us this day.</i></b></font></p>

JESUS: CRUCIFIED AND GARMENTS DIVIDED. “When Jesus therefore saw
his :mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he said to
<i>his</i> :mother, Woman, behold, your :son! <font style="font-size: 8pt;" size="1">27a</font>
Then said he to the disciple, Behold, your :mother!” </b><span style="">Even
in the midst of His soul travail on our behalf, even unto death, Your
Son Jesus thought of and looked after human need! Father, we bless
You for Your Son, and thank You that You are with us in temptation's
hour. </span><b><i>And forgive us our :debts, As we also have
forgiven our :debtors.</i></b></font></p>

<font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><b>6. 19:30 (19:28-37) JESUS:
HIS DEATH AND PIERCING. “When :Jesus therefore had received the
vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head <i>and</i>
gave up <i>his</i> :spirit.” </b><span style="">Jesus
accomplished Your will on our behalf for which You sent Him, Father.
How thankful we are that He </span><u><span style="">finished</span></u><span style="text-decoration: none;"><span style="">
the great work of Redemption. </span></span><b><i><span style="text-decoration: none;">And
bring us not into temptation.</span></i></b></font></p>

Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of :Jesus, but secretly for
:fear of the Jews, asked :Pilate that he might take away the body of
:Jesus: and :Pilate gave leave. He came therefore, and took away his
:body.” </span></span></font></b><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;"><span style="">Father,
You provided aforehand for the proper care of the body of Your Son.
How tenderly and carefully Joseph did Your bidding! You leave nothing

<font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2">The death of Jesus Christ is the
fulfillment in history of the very mind and intent of God. There is
no place for seeing Jesus Christ as a martyr. His death was not
something that happened to Him - something that might have been
prevented. His death was the very reason He came.</font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0.01in; margin-bottom: 0in; font-style: normal; text-decoration: none;" align="LEFT">

<font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;">Never
build your case for forgiveness on the idea that God is our Father
and He will forgive us because He loves us. That contradicts the
revealed truth of God in Jesus Christ. It makes the Cross
unnecessary, and the redemption “much ado about nothing.” God
forgives sin </span></span></font><u><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;">only</span></font></u><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;">
because of the the death of Christ. God could forgive people in no
other way than by the death of His son, and Jesus is exalted as
Savior because of His death. </span></span></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;"><b>“We
see Jesus ... </b></span></span></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><i><span style="text-decoration: none;"><b>for
the suffering of death</b></span></i></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;"><b>
crowned with glory and honor ...” </b></span></span></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;">(Hebrews
2:9). The greatest note of triumph ever sounded in the ears of a
startled universe was that sounded on the Cross of Christ - </span></span></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;"><b>“It
is finished!” </b></span></span></font><font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="text-decoration: none;">(John
19:30). That is the final word in the redemption of humankind.</span></span></font></p>
<p style="margin-top: 0.01in; margin-bottom: 0in; font-style: normal; text-decoration: none;" align="LEFT">

<p style="margin-top: 0.01in; margin-bottom: 0in; font-style: normal; text-decoration: none;" align="LEFT">
<font style="font-size: 11pt;" size="2">Anything that lessens or
completely obliterates the holiness of God, through a false view of
His love, contradicts the truth of God as revealed by Jesus Christ.
Never allow yourself to believe that Jesus Christ stands with us, and
against God, out of pity and compassion, or that He became a curse
for us out of sympathy for us. Jesus Christ became a curse for us by
divine decree. Our part in realizing the tremendous meaning of His
curse is the conviction of sin. Conviction is given to us as a gift
of shame and repentance; it is the great mercy of God. Jesus Christ
hates the sin in people, and Calvary is the measure of His hatred.</font></p>
