*FEB 16 - MARK 4:1-6:29 - KINGDOM TEACHING OF JESUS*
1. 4:24-25 (4:1-34) JESUS: PARABLE TEACHING. “And he said to them, Look to
what you hear: with what measure you measure it shall be measured to you;
and shall be added to you. 25 For who has, to him shall be given: and who
has not, from him shall be taken away even what he has” (NNT). We hear this
word of Your Son, Father, and take it deeply to heart; we do not pass over
it lightly. Yes, we are *yoked* to Jesus and His will and teaching. *Hallowed
be your :name.*
*2. 4:39, 41 (4:35-41) JESUS: MASTER OF THE SEA. “And he awoke, and rebuked
the wind, and said to the sea, Quiet, be still. 41 And they feared a great
fear, and said one to another, Who then is this, that both the wind obeys
him and the sea? *May we be as obedient to Jesus, as nature was to Him! *Your
:kingdom come.*
*3. 5:19 (5:1-20) JESUS: HEALS A DEMONIAC. “And he suffered him not, but
said to him, Go to Your :house unto your own and report to them how great
things the Lord has done for you, and he had mercy on you.” *How wise the
instructions of Your Son Jesus, Father! You do *all* things well through
him! *Your :will be done, As in heaven, so on earth!*
*4. 5:36 (5:21-43) JESUS: MIRACLE WITHIN A MIRACLE. “But :Jesus,
overhearing the word spoken, said to the synagogue-ruler, Fear not, only
believe.” *O forgive us, Father, that we are so slow to believe, and to
accept Your Almighty power as manifested through through Your Son! There is
*nothing* impossible with You! *Our :daily :bread, Give us this day.*
*5. 6:4-6a (6:1-6a) JESUS: HINDERED BY UNBELIEF. “And :Jesus said to them
[that] A prophet is not without honor, save in his own :country, and among
his own :kin, and in his own :house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work,
save that he laid his :hands upon a few sick, and healed them. 6a And he
marveled because of their :unbelief.” *May we never doubt either Your
ability - or - your willingness! *And forgive us our :debts, As we also have
forgiven our :debtors.*
*6. 6:12-13 (6:6b-13) JESUS: SENDS FORTH THE TWELVE. “And they went out,
and preached that men should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons, and
anointed with oil many sick, and cured them.”*
Those whom Your Son appoints, Father, are in Him well able to function
within His commission. *And **bring us not into temptation!*
*7. 6:26 (6:14-29) JOHN: BEHEADED BY HEROD. “And though the king was very
sorry for the sake of **his** oaths and of the guests, he would not refuse
her.” *The old order passes, giving place to new. Father, may we always bow
and submit to Your Sovereign right to order Your Kingdom in the way pleasing
to You! *But deliver us from the evil **one!*
*NOTE**: 4:33-34 (4:1-34) JESUS: TAUGHT ONLY BY PARABLES. “And with many
such parables spoke he the word to them, as they were able to hear
**it; 34and without parable he did not speak to them: but privately to
his private
:disciples he expounded all things.” *Father, teach us again the value of
parable; help us to follow Jesus' example, and use parables in our preaching
and teaching!
There is no part of God's word unimportant - but *this* portion containing
insights on Jesus' parables is especially important!
In 1946-47 Mr. George Tasker, missionary from India, was lecturing in the
Saskatoon area. We had him come to our IVCF meeting of some 100 students,
and they were strongly taken with the unusual and penetrating insights he
shared on Jesus' parables from the Gospel of Mark. He had that ability to
reach even liberal thinking Christians with his challenging message.
The teaching of the Kingdom of God by Jesus has far more importance than
many of us realize. He called it the Gospel or Good News of the Kingdom of
God. It is *this latter* that is the *heart* of the Gospel!
Many have noted the distinction between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom
of the Heavens. Some go into very fine detail on this - but I fear few could
follow such detailed reasoning. I prefer to look at it as follows: The
Kingdom of the Heavens was particularly the message the Father gave to His
Son Jesus - both while on earth and on through His Millennial Reign to come.
I call this the “Invisible” or “Within” Kingdom.
At the end of the Millennium - Jesus as Son of Man - will turn back His
mandate of the inward Kingdom - back to God, who will make the Kingdom of
God an *outward* visible Kingdom, bringing the New Jerusalem down to the
Recreated Earth. I find this more simple to understand.
E. Stanley Jones wrote “The Unshakable Kingdom and the Unchanging Christ”.
Bob Mumford felt it was probably one of the most important books of the last
century. I can testify of the impact it initially had on me - and on several
other friends.
Don't depart from this concept too soon - “*The Gospel of the Kingdom of
God*.” Look at Daniel 7:13-14 for an insight on this. J.A.Watt
