 *JUL 27 - 1 CORINTHIANS 8-11 - ETHICAL JUDGMENTS*


 *1. 8:1b-2 (8, NNT) IDOL OFFERINGS. “:Knowledge puffs up, but :love builds
up. 2 If any thinks he knows anything, he knows not yet as he ought to
know.” *Love O Father, is the key Kingdom principle. We can love You with
all of our heart, mind and strength, and then do what we please! *Hallowed
be your :name.*


 *2. 9:26-27 (9) APOSTOLIC PRIVILEGES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. “I accordingly
so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I as not beating air; 27 but I bruise
my :body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have
preached to others, I myself should be disapproved.” *Holiness as a wave,
precedes the wave of Your Kingdom, Father. May we balance the gifts of the
Spirit with the the *fruit* of the Spirit. *Your :kingdom come.*


 *3. 10:11 (10:1-13) OLD COVENANT WARNINGS. “Now these happened to them as
a figure; and were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the
ages are come.”*

Father, we would profit by the warning-examples of Israel. May we not
become high-minded and careless. We would be holy as *You* are holy. *Your
:will be done, As in heaven, so on earth.*


 *4. 10:20 (10:14-22) IDOLATRY AND THE EUCHARIST. “But I say, that the
things which the nations sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to
God: and I would not that you should have communion with demons.” *Thank
You Father, that You hate *mixtures*. A pure walk honors You. *You* lead us
in the paths of righteousness, for Your Name’s sake! Forgive us for
succumbing to satanic, occult, and new age compromise. Make us like
Hezekiah and Josiah - to purge demonism out of the land. *Our :daily bread
Give us this day.*


 *5. 10:32-11:1 (10:23-11:1) LIBERTY AND CONSCIENCE. “Give no occasion of
stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of :God: 33 even
as I also please all in all things, not seeking my own :profit, but that of
the many, that they be saved. 11:1 Become imitators of me, even as I also
am of Christ.” *Father, we would walk in the *law of love* toward all men,
and so fulfill the ethical and moral law! *And forgive us our :debts, As we
also have forgiven our :debtors.*


 *6. 11:3 (11:2-16) HEADSHIP. “But I would have you know, that the head of
every man is :Christ; and the head of woman is the man; and the head of the
Christ is :God. *Father, help us to see Your divinely appointed order.
Thank You for godly women who see the breaking of Your order by extreme
women-libbers and brazen sexual perversion. *And bring us not into
temptation.*


 *7. 11:27, 29 (11:17-34) LORD’S SUPPER AND WORTHINESS. “So that whoever
shall eat the bread or drink the cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be
guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 29 For who eats and drinks,
eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he discern not the body.” *Father,
we see the Atoning body of our Lord set forth on the cross; we see also His
many-membered spiritual body, of which we are all a part! *But deliver us
from the evil one!*


 *NOTE**: 10:13 (10:1-13) GOD’S FAITHFULNESS IN OUR TEMPTATIONS! **“Only
human temptation has overtaken you: but :God is faithful, who will not
suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the
temptation make also the way out, that you be able to endure it.” *Yield
not to temptation, For *yielding** *is sin; Each victory will help you,
some other to win. Fight manfully onward, Dark passions subdue; Ask the
Savior to help you; *He* will carry you through.


 *Our Psalm for the day: 27:13 (27, ESV) THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY
SALVATION. “I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in
the land of the living! *Jehovah Father, You are our light and salvation;
we will not fear, for *You* are the strength of our life! You look after
the orphan and the widow. You give strength as we wait patiently on
You. *Hallowed
be your :name!*


 *Quotes from C.H. Spurgeon: *“We can never understand how Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit can be three and yet one. For my part, I have long ago given up
any desire to understand this great mystery, for I am perfectly satisfied
that, if I could understand it, it would not be true, because God, from the
very nature of things, must be incomprehensible.” and “It is an odd product
of our unhealthy nature - the fear to believe. Yet have I met with it
often: so often that I wish I may never see it again. It looks like
humility, and tries to pass itself off as the very soul of modesty, and yet
it is an infamously proud thing: in fact, it is presumption playing the
hypocrite. If men were afraid to disbelieve, there would be good sense in
the fear: but to be afraid to trust their God is at best an absurdity, and
in very deed it is a deceitful way of refusing to the Lord the honor that
is due to his faithfulness and truth.”


 This Psalm may with profit be read in a threefold way: as the language of
David, of the church, and of the Lord Jesus. The plenitude of Scripture
will thus appear the more wonderful.

27:1. *The Lord is my light and my salvation.* Where there is not enough
light to see our own darkness and to long for the the Lord Jesus, there is
no evidence of salvation. Salvation finds us in the dark, but does not
leave us there. It is not said merely that the Lord gives light, but that
he “is” light; not that He gives salvation, but that He “is” salvation!


 27:2. *When the wicked*. It is a hopeful sign for us when the wicked hate
us; if our foes were godly men it would be a sore sorrow, but as for the
wicked, their hatred is better than their love.


 27:4. *To behold the beauty of the Lord.* We must not enter the assemblies
of the saints in order to see and be seen or merely to hear the minister.
Better far - behold it by faith! What a sight will that be when every
faithful follower of Jesus shall behold “the King in His beauty!” Oh, for
the infinitely blessed vision!


 27:8. *When You said, Seek you My face; my heart said unto You, Your face,
Lord, will I seek*. Oh, for more of this holy readiness! Would to God that
we were more plastic to the Divine hand, more sensitive of the touch of
God’s Spirit.


 27:12. *For false witnesses are risen up against me. *Slander is an
old-fashioned weapon out of the armory of hell and is still in plentiful
use; and no matter how holy a man may be, there will be some who will
defame him. It is their vital breath to hate the good.
