*JUL 11 - ISAIAH 7-12 - THE DAY OF THE LORD AND ISRAEL*

*1. 7:14 (7:1-16) JUDAH INVADED BY SYRIA AND ISRAEL. “Therefore the Lord
himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a
son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” *Father, it is *not* our worthiness
that You bless; but because of *Your* Purpose, *Promise* and Grace! Thus
did You give this sign to unworthy Ahaz, for *none* of us is worthy! *Hallowed
be your :name.*

*2. 7:17 (7:17-25) JUDAH: INVADED BY ASSYRIA. “The LORD will bring upon
you and upon your people and upon your father’s house such days as have not
come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah - the king of Assyria.”
*In judgment Father, You *always* remember mercy! Thank You for being such
a merciful God. Yet you love us too much as sons to shield us from
chastisement. *Your :kingdom come.*

*3. 8:18 (8:1-9:7) SYRIA, ISRAEL, JUDAH INVADED: A REPRIEVE BY THE
LORD. Behold,
I and the children whom the LORD has given me are signs and portents in
Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.” *Yes Father, we,
our children, the meaning of our names: all are Your provision that we too
might be signs and wonders - and portray Your truthfulness. *Your :will be
done, As in heaven, so on earth.*

*4. 10:1 (9:8-10:4) ISRAEL: HER SINS AND JUDGMENT. “Woe to those who
decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing
oppression.” *Lawless
people plan wickedness, speak it forth and enact it. Woe to us if such is
in our hearts. In contrition and repentance, we have a desire to be
reconciled with You, Father. *Our :daily :bread Give us this day.*

*5. 10:27 (10:5-34) ISRAEL: CHASTENED BY ASSYRIA. “And in that day his
burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the
yoke will will be broken because of the fat (anointing).” *Your chastening
Father, lasts but a moment; afterward comes the peaceable fruit of
righteousness! *Then* Your judgment falls on persecutors! *And forgive us
our :debts, As we also have forgiven our :debtors.*

*6. 11:2 (11:1-16) MESSIAH: HIS DIVINE INTERVENTION. “And the Spirit of
the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the
Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the
LORD.” *And how O Father, do You deliver us from the evil one? Through *
Jesus*, upon Whom You have put Your seven-fold Spirit, and to Whom You have
given Your Name: Jehovah the Savior! *And bring us not into temptation.*

*7. 12:6 (12:1-6) THE LORD: HIS GLORIOUS REIGN! “Shout, and sing for joy,
O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” *All
the words of prophets and apostles shall *surely* be fulfilled! The time of
the restitution of all things is at hand! You O Father, through Your Son *
Jesus*, are about to take Your great power and *reign*! *But deliver us
from the evil one!*

*NOTE**: 9:6 (8:1-9:7) **FOR TO US A CHILD IS BORN! “For to us a child is
born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace.” *Father, what more can we say? Your Grace through
*Jesus* has been *magnified* and *multiplied* unto us beyond measure!
Praise, worship, honor and glory become You, world without end. Amen

*Our Psalm for the day: 11:3 (11) THE LORD IS IN HIS HOLY TEMPLE. “If the
foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” *There is no hope
Father, apart from You. When *foundations* are gone, our only hope is in *
You*! But You are restoring foundations through Your chosen ones. You are
triumphing over the lawless. *Hallowed be your :name!*

David, at the different periods of his life, was placed in almost every
situation in which a believer, whether rich or poor, can be placed; in
these heavenly compositions, he delineates all the workings of his heart.
To assist us to remember this short but sweet Psalm, we shall give it the
name of “the Song of the Steadfast.”

11:1-3. These verses contain an account of a temptation to distrust God,
which which David was, upon some unmentioned occasion, greatly exercised.
It may be, that in the days when he was in Saul’s court, he was advised to
flee at a time when this flight would have been charged against him as a
breach of duty to the king or a proof of personal cowardice. His case was
like that of Nehemiah, when his enemies, under the garb of friendship,
hoped to entrap him by advising him to escape for his life.

11:1. *In the Lord put I my trust: how do you say to my soul, Flee as a
bird to your mountain?* When Satan cannot overthrow us by presumption, how
craftily will he seek to ruin us by distrust! He will employ our dearest
friends to argue us out of our confidence, and he will use such plausible
logic that unless we once for all assert our immovable trust in Jehovah, he
will makes us like the timid bird which flies to the mountains whenever
danger presents itself.

11:2. *The wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the
string. * The bow is bent, the arrow is fitted to the string: “Flee, flee,
you defenseless bird, your safety lies in flight; begone, for your enemies
will send their shafts into your heart; haste, haste, for soon will you be
destroyed!” David seems to have felt the force of the advice, for it came
home to his soul; but yet he would not yield, but would rather dare the
danger than exhibit a distrust in the Lord, his God.

11:4. *The Lord is in His holy temple. *The heavens are above our heads in
all regions of the earth, and so is the Lord ever near to us in every state
and condition. This is a very strong reason why we should not adopt the
vile suggestions of distrust. There is One Who pleads His precious blood in
our behalf in the temple above, and there is One upon the throne Who is
never deaf to the intercession of His Son. Why, then, should we fear? What
plots can men devise which Jesus will not discover?

*The Lord’s throne is in heaven. *If we trust this King of kings, is not
this enough? Cannot He deliver us without our cowardly retreat? Yes,
blessed be the Lord our God, we can salute Him as Jehovah-nissi; in His
Name we set up our banners, and, instead of flight, we once more raise the
shout of war.

11:6. *This shall be the portion of their cup. *A drop of hell is
terrible, but what must a full cup of torment be? Think of it - a cup of
misery, but not a drop of mercy. O people of God, how foolish is it to fear
the faces of men who shall soon be fagots in the fire of hell. Think of
their threatenings and pity for their miserable estate.

11:7. *For the righteous Lord loves righteousness. *It is not only His
office to defend it but His nature to love it. *His countenance does behold
the upright*. Mammon, the flesh, the devil, will all whisper in our ear,
“Flee as a bird to your mountain”; but let us come forth and defy them all.
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” There is no room or reason
for retreat. Advance! Let the vanguard push on! To the front! all you
powers and passions of our soul. On! on! in God’s Name, on! for “the Lord
of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.” (These notes are from

Fuller. Do a “Google-search” on “Spurgeon” for much more!)
