*WEEK 27 - JUL 1-7 - PROVERBS - WORDS TO RULE LIFE*
*JUL 1. 3:5-6 (1-7) A FATHER'S COUNSEL, WARNING AND WISDOM. “Trust in
Jehovah with all your heart, And lean not upon your own understanding: 6 In
all your ways acknowledge him, And he will direct your path.” (ASV
‘01) *Father,
we would have You reign over us in Messiah. We would be Your obedient sons
and daughters by faith. “Reign in me! Sovereign Lord, Reign in me.
Captivate my heart; Let Your Kingdom come; Establish *there* Your Throne;
Let Your will be done! *Hallowed be your :name.*
*JULY 2. 9:10 (8-9) WISDOM'S CALL. “The fear of Jehovah is the beginning
of wisdom; And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” *Yes
Father, You make us clean through Your fear! You hold us back from sin
through Your fear! Lord, Your fear is *clean*, enduring forever. *Your
:kingdom come.*
*JUL 3. 16:32 (10-20) CONTRASTING PROVERBS. “He that is slow to anger is
better than the mighty; And he that rules his spirit, than he that takes a
city.” *Father, You reveal that self-control is better than valor! The
fruit of the Spirit exceeds in value the gifts of the Spirit. Love is a
more excellent way! We choose what You choose. *Your :will be done, As in
heaven, so on earth.*
*JUL 4. 22:6 (21-24) MAXIMS AND COUNSELS. “Train up a child in the way he
should go, And even when he is old he will not depart from it.” *Father,
let us not be naive concerning this truth: it has a condition within it
that requires the best from fathers and mothers. Forgive us as parents
wherein we have failed our sons and daughters in this regard, and may they
be inclined to forgive us our trespasses and shortcomings. *Our :daily
:bread Give us this day.*
*JULY 5. 25:28 (25-29) SOLOMON: COPIED BY HEZEKIAH. “He whose spirit is
without restraint is like a city that is broken down and without
walls.” *Father,
let this truth sink down deep into our hearts. An undisciplined person is
defenseless against the enemy: - in deception we move without armor! O,
help us rectify such deception! *And forgive us our :debts, As we also have
forgiven our :debtors.*
*JUL 6. 30:5-6 (30:1-33) WORDS OF AGUR. “Every word of God is tried: He is
a shield unto them that take refuge in him. 6 Add not unto his words, Lest
he reprove you, and you be found a liar.” *Father Your Word is complete! It
is sufficient for our every need. We cannot add to it, nor take away from
it. It is the Sword of the Spirit! *And bring us not into temptation.*
*JUL 7. 31:23, 26 (31:1-31) WORDS OF A MOTHER AND THE IDEAL WIFE. “Her husband
is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. 26 She
opens her mouth with wisdom; And the law of kindness is on her
tongue.” *Father,
a prudent wife is from You! She is a gift for husband and children. The
fruit of her worth is known through her words. She is a gift from You! *But
deliver us from the evil one.*
*NOTE*: What a fitting close to a great book of wisdom. Job 29 depicts the
ideal man. Surely he as an elder in the gate praised his wife, and taught
his children to praise their mother!
Many mature and strong believers read a chapter of Proverbs every day.
This book is then covered twelve times in a year. You will become a person
of wise counsel as you immerse yourself in these truths.
How God has honored us with this book! It is the highest gift for parents,
especially for fathers and their sons.
God used Solomon to write 3 of the books of the Bible. He wrote “Song of
Solomon,” in his young years, illustrating “Bridal Love”, especially the
love of Christ for His Church!
He wrote Proverbs in his later years, with all the wisdom fathers need in
raising their children.
He wrote Ecclesiastes in his latest years, after he had “blown it.” My
oldest son at 10 asked me, “Dad - how can people say that Solomon was the
wisest of men, when he married 700 wives and had 300 concubines?” Solomon
indeed was foolish in this regard, and most disobedient to God. His wives
led him away from God, and he joined them in worshiping their idols - their
false gods. He came to his senses in his last years, and ends up with these
two wise verses - Ecclesiastes:12:13-14, *“**This is **the end of the
matter; all has been heard: Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this
is the whole **duty** of man. **14** For God will bring every work into
judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it be good, or whether it be
evil.”** *This is a serious concluding word - but absolutely true. We shall
*all* appear before the judgment seat of Christ at His return, to answer to
Him for the deeds done in our body, whether good or evil. When the apostle
Paul reasoned of these things before the Roman governor Felix, he trembled,
sensing the truth of Paul's words
I know many fathers who read the book of Proverbs a chapter a day each
month. It is distilled wisdom for child-rearing! He who meditates earnestly
like Joshua, David, Jeremiah and Timothy on these words of God through
Solomon, will benefit in practical matters beyond belief. - But like
Joshua, David and Timothy, may all such meditation lead to *doing* what has
been read and meditated upon! Jesus said - *“Blessed is the man who hears
and does the words you have heard of Me!” Matthew 7:24 (7:24-27). *
