 *2009-01-23 - REWARD - misTHOS - Strong #3408, 29x*

*1. Matthew 5:11-12 (5:1-12) THE REWARD FOR REPROACH AND PERSECUTION.
“Blessed are you when men shall reproach you and persecute, and say all
manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be
exceeding glad, for great is your :reward in the heavens: for so persecuted
they the prophets :before you.” *God in no wise desires us to miss the
significance of this passage. It is the last and eighth of the Beatitudes
given by Jesus close to the beginning of His ministry. Again, the law of
first reference causes this passage to stand forth! The 7th Beatitude
commends those persecuted because of righteousness sake. But the
*eighth*commends us for being persecuted because we have openly and
clearly
identified ourselves with Jesus Himself. *Great* reward in the heavens is
God's evaluation of such identification on our part.

*2. Matthew 10:40-42 REWARD FOR RECEIVING JESUS' DISCIPLES. “Who receives
you receives me, and who receives me receives him that sent me. 41 Who
receives a prophet unto a prophet's name shall receive a prophet's reward;
and who receives a righteous man unto a righteous man's name shall receive
a righteous man's reward. 40 And whoso shall give to drink to one of these
:little ones a cup of cold water only, unto a disciple's name, Amen I say
unto you, he shall in no wise lose his :reward.” *See how carefully Jesus
regards what we do for fellow believers, for His ministers - even for new
converts and very young child converts. He who notices the falling of
sparrows - notices what we do for fellow members of the body of Christ, and
*rewards* us accordingly.

*3. Luke 6:34-35 (6:24-38) GREAT REWARD FOR LOVING ENEMIES. “And if you
lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thank have you? even the
sinners do the same, to receive the like again. 35 But love your :enemies,
and do good, and lend, never despairing; and your :reward shall be great,
and you shall be sons of the Most High: for HE is kind toward the
unthankful and evil.” *But here is a greater test! Would we be like our
Heavenly Father who sends His rain on the just and unjust alike, and
*also*show this attitude to
*our* enemies? And what to those of other color and race and culture? Brown
and yellow, black and white - *all* are precious in His sight. Jesus loves
the little children of the world. May they be in ours also.

*4. 2 John 8-9 (4-11) REWARD BASED ON CONTINUING FAITHFULNESS. “Look to
yourselves, that you lose not what things we have wrought, but that you
receive a full reward. 9 Whoever goes onward and abides not in the teaching
of the Christ, has not God: who abides in the teaching, that same has both
the Father and the Son.” *All of us have received from others. Some have
led us to Christ. Some have discipled us. These all are pulling for us that
we endure to the end. There is reward for us in our faithful continuance.
See the parable of the 4 soils - Jesus' *Key* Parable. Three quarters of
all who start out fall away. And - those who make it are on three levels.

*5. 1 Corinthians 3:8 (3:3-9) PARTICULAR REWARD FOR PARTICULAR SERVICE.
“Now who plants and who waters are one: but each shall receive his own :
reward according to his own :toil.” *Here is a thought for Ministers. *
Faithfulness* in our separate and distinctive callings is the key.

*6. 1 Timothy 5:17-18 (5:17-25) REWARD OR HIRE: BASED ON FAITHFUL AND
COMPETENT SERVICE. “Let the elders ruling well be counted worthy of double
honor, specially those who toil in the word and teaching. 18 For the
scripture says, You shall not muzzle the ox when treading out corn. And,
The laborer is worthy of his :hire.” *Double Honor has the sense of
remunerative reward. See God's rule for the tribe of Levi. He was the
smallest of the tribes of Israel, but the 12 tribes each gave a tithe to
Levi! Twelve-tenths from 12 larger tribes! And then Levi tithed to the “*
Priests*,” again, a far smaller portion of the smallest tribe. See the
analogy Paul uses here, drawing from the Old Testament, concerning the ox.

*7. Revelation 22:11-12 (22:10-15) REWARD: ALSO BASED ON RIGHTEOUS LIVING.
“Who is unrighteous, let him be unrighteous still: and who is filthy, let
him be made filthy still: and who is righteous, let him do righteousness
still: and who is holy, let him be made holy still. 12 Lo, I come speedily;
and my :reward is with me, to render to each according as his :work is.” *And
here is the closing thought on *reward* from the above seven selections.
Jesus is speaking directly, not through His apostles. He clearly spells out
the distinction as He sees it between the righteous and the unrighteous.
And He clearly states what He will soon do at His Second Coming in regard
to reward - based accurately on our deeds done down here in the flesh. See
what this revelation did to William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army,
once he saw the above truths. “Is This Your Life” is a pamphlet written by
Ray Johnson of “Life Messengers” on Booth's vision.

*NOTE*: “The Judgment Seat of Christ” (BEma) is where saints appear
following the resurrection of the first-born, and at that time receive
rewards. Some will have all of their works burned up at that time (wood,
hay and stubble), which they performed for the Lord according to
*their own*ideas. They did
*their thing* for the Lord, rather than *His thing.* They will be saved,
though as by fire. Gold, silver and precious stones are those works
inspired by the Holy Spirit for us to do for God, Evangelism and
Fellow-saints. We are no longer our own, but *His*. We have truly been
discipled, and the Judgment Seat will manifest the difference between these
two types of believers. Hear the following words of a chorus birthed back
in 1944 - *“You are **not** your own - With a **price** you're bought - And
You're **Mine** eternally! *To let the Lord live this out through our lives
by His Spirit - will leave us *never* the same again!

One might say - “Just as long as I make heaven, I will be satisfied.” How
selfish! Is *this* all we care about Jesus, and what He has done for us in
purchasing Redemption and Reconciliation? Our works led by the Holy Spirit
is our way of saying “Thanks” to Him for the incredible Passion of The
Christ at Calvary on our behalf! For understanding this, and producing
through the Spirit works of gold, silver and precious stones, we receive
reward. But - we want this merely to be a reflection of the love and
thanksgiving we bear to Him!

Saints unfortunately often think too little of the Significance to Jesus
concerning our works of love, and how He demonstrates His appreciation by
what He does for us at His Judgment Seat.

Reward*, here are the rest of the 29 references on it, that are not
