*“PRAYER ALERT”** - 2009-05-21*
*Thanks to many of you who have subscribed to our mailings. Some of you
have particular intercessory giftings, and have indicated your interest in
praying for Marie and me. We much appreciate this.*
*Today we leave for Vancouver Island, and on Saturday will be conducting a
Presbytery Installation Service in Victoria for friends of ours. On Sunday
we drive to Port Alberni where many of Marie's relatives live, and probably
Tuesday to Cumberland, where Marie's brother next to her in age is in a Rest
Home, seriously in need of prayer. We will probably return home next
Wednesday.*
*On Sunday May 31st I will be speaking at an evening service in Aldergrove
on “Past Revivals of Canada.” *
*Later in June we fly to Minnesota for Revival Meetings in line with God's
Visitation in Northern Canada in 1948.*
*We will much appreciate your prayer support for these, just as many of you
prayed for us on Mother's Day Weekend when we were in California.*
*Your friends - Jim & Marie Watt*
*JONAH, MICAH, NAHUM, HABAKKUK - Overview - T3901R*
*“TO JEW FIRST, BUT ALSO TO GREEK”*
*1. Jonah 1:3 (1-2) REBELLION, PRAYER AND DELIVERANCE. “But Jonah rose up
to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of Jehovah; and he went down to
Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare for it, and
went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of
Jehovah.” *Father, we cannot flee from You, even by going down! David knew
this. We acknowledge it too. *Hallowed be your :name.*
*2. Jonah 4:2b (3-4) OBEDIENCE, COMPLAINT AND REBUKE. “Therefore I hasted
to flee unto Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful,
slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and do repent of the
evil.” *Father, we forgive Jonah for fleeing from doing Your will. O
may we never
fall into the trap of siding against You!” *Your :kingdom come.*
*3. Micah 2:3 (1-2) THREATS OF COMING JUDGMENT. “Therefore thus says
Jehovah: Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which you
shall not remove your necks, neither shall you walk haughtily; for it is an
evil time.” *Judgment is a bitter time. Revelation that reveals a chosen
one, not only does not preclude judgment, but actually necessitates it - and
is a bitter lesson! Yet, in wrath, remember mercy! *Your :will be done, As
in heaven, so on earth.*
*4. Micah 4:10 (3-5) PROPHECY OF PROMISED DELIVERANCE. “Be in pain, and
labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail; for now
shall you go forth out of the city, and shall dwell in the field, and shall
come even unto Babylon: there shall you be rescued; there will Jehovah
redeem you from the hand of your enemies.” *Here is Your powerful word of
faithfulness, Father! *Forgive us for ever doubting You, *when the time of
purging and judgment seems long. 1000 years is but a day to You! *Our :daily
:bread Give us this day.*
*5. Micah 6:8 (6-7) EXHORTATIONS WITH PROMISED RESTORATION. “He has showed
you, O man, what is good; and what does Jehovah require of you, but to do
justly, and love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” *Father, You
shall yet visit us with revival. Your faithfulness to Judah and Israel of
old shall be reduplicated in Your church. You will visit Your people - both
natural and spiritual! *And forgive us our :debts, As we also have forgiven
our :debtors.*
*6. Nahum 1:2 (1-3) VENGEANCE ON NINEVEH: A CONTRAST. “Jehovah is a jealous
God and avenges; Jehovah avenges and is full of wrath; Jehovah takes
vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserves wrath for his enemies.” *You
are slow to anger and judgment, Father; but eventually Your day of action
comes: *suddenly* you come both to reward and judge. Satan's day of
punishment will also come. *And bring us not into temptation.*
*7. Habakkuk 2:2-3 (1-3) THE MYSTERIES OF PROVIDENCE. “And Jehovah answered
me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may
run that reads it. 3 For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it
hastes toward the end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it;
because it will surely come, it will not delay.” *Great is Your
faithfulness, Father! *But deliver us from the evil one.*
*NOTE* especially Micah 6:8. Individuals often ask, “How can I please God?”
Here is an answer to this question straight from the heart of God! This is
actually God's hope and desire for every individual of mankind, but
especially for those who have believed on the Finished Work of God's only
begotten Son, and have entered into that realm of discipleship mentioned in
the Great Commission, Matthew
28:18-20.
Also let us pay close attention to Habakkuk 2:2-3. Understand clearly by
God's Vision for us concerning His Kingdom. And note also the absolute need
of *patience* for God's timing. King Saul couldn't wait for Samuel, and *
lost* the Kingdom. Let us not *force* ourselves into the work of God's
Kingdom ahead of His appointed time. But conversely, let us not lag behind
like Israel in the wilderness. They failed to follow up on the good report
of 2 of the 12 spies in Canaan land, Joshua and Caleb! As a nation they were
then forced by God to wander in the wilderness for 40 years, a year for each
day the 12 spies spent in spying out the land.
But 2 other verses from Habakkuk could just as easily have found a place in
the above 7 entries; Habakkuk 3:3-4 (3:1-15) *THE PROPHET'S STRONG
CONFIDENCE IN GOD. “God came from Teman, And the Holy One from mount Paran.
Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
**4** And **his** brightness was as the light; **He had rays **coming forth*
* from his hand; And there was the hiding of his power.**” *What an awesome
revelation! Notice the *rays that came from his hand*. Compare with Mark
16:17-18 (16:19-18). *“And these signs **shall** follow them that have
believed: in my :name shall they cast out demons, speak with tongues; **18**
**and in the**ir** hands they shall take up serpents, and if they drink
anything deadly it shall in no wise hurt them; **they shall lay hands on **
the** sick, and they shall recover.”* The laying on of hands on the sick
brings forth one aspect of “The Signs Following.” The Holy Spirit within a
Spirit-filled person leaps out of his hands to impart healing into needy
bodies. Jesus constantly engaged Himself in this in His 3-year earthly
ministry. And - by His Spirit - He *indwells us*! Expect these two verses
from Habakkuk to increasingly manifest themselves as the end of this age
approaches, and the coming of our Lord draws nigh! - J.A.W.
