   * 1 SAMUEL - OVERVIEW - BEGINNINGS OF THE KINGDOM - T2101R - 2008-11-22*

*1. 2:20-21 (1-3) SAMUEL: HIS BIRTH AND ESTABLISHMENT. "And Eli blessed
Elkanah and his wife, and said, Jehovah give you seed of this woman for the
petition which was asked of Jehovah. And they went unto their own
home. 21And Jehovah visited Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three
sons and two
daughters. And the child Samuel grew before Jehovah." *Obedient clay vessels
receive ample reward from You, Father. We honor You! *Hallowed be your
:name.*

*2. 4:21 (4-6) THE ARK: SYMBOL OF GOD'S PRESENCE. "And she named the child
Ichabod (There is no glory), saying, The glory is departed from Israel;
because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father-in-law and her
husband." *Now no ark, no high priest, no priesthood! Yes, Your Judgment
Father, was upon Israel because of sin in leadership in high places! *Your
:kingdom come.*

*3. 8:22 (7-8) ISRAEL: DESIRES A KING. "And Jehovah said to Samuel, Listen
unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of
Israel, Go you every man unto his city." *You often give us the desires of
our heart Father, but send *leanness* unto our souls! But this is not Your
true desire for us, for You desire a *spiritual* people. *Your :will be
done, As in heaven, so on earth.*

*4. 15:28-29 (9-15) SAUL: CHOSEN AND REJECTED. "And Samuel said unto him,
Jehovah has rent the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it
to a neighbor of yours, that is better than you. 29 And also the Strength of
Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent."
*Saul: an auspicious beginning, but a tragic end! O forgive us Father, that
we so often fail to take this lesson from the example of Saul more deeply to
heart!* Our :daily :bread Give us this day.*

*5. 16:7 (16-20) DAVID: ANOINTED AND PERSECUTED. "But Jehovah said unto
Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature;
because I have rejected him: for Jehovah sees not as man sees; for man looks
on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart." *We are tempted
to judge a man after the flesh, according to appearance. We bless You
Father, that You judge righteously according to our heart! He is not perfect
who is after Your heart, but his desires are essentially correct. *And
forgive us our :debts, As we also have forgiven our :debtors.*

*6. 26:21 (21-26) DAVID: FLEES FROM SAUL TO WILDERNESS. "Then said Saul, I
have sinned: return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because
my life was precious in your eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool,
and have erred exceedingly." *A man with a persecuting, jealous spirit
cannot be trusted. He operates insanely against his own best interests. *And
bring us not into temptation.*

*7. 29:5 (27-31) DAVID: FLEES FROM SAUL TO PHILISTINES. "Is not this David,
of whom they say one to another in dances, saying, Saul has slain his
thousands, And David his ten thousands?" *David's reputation had preceded
him, even into the enemy's camp! And You Father, make *even our enemies* to
be a peace with us when our ways please You. *But deliver us from the evil
one.*

*NOTE*: I have entitled 1 Samuel - "Beginnings of the Kingdom." All titles
and comments in these outlines, the Greek Interlinear and the Greek Word
Studies, are human - not divine. Feel free to replace *any* of these with
your own. But the Bible text however - *that* is *Divine*! - According to
Bible Numerics, God has placed his stamp or signature of approval upon all
66 Books - every word, every letter, and even the sentence, sub-paragraph,
paragraph and section structure. Many scholars and students through the
years have confirmed the accuracy of Panin's discoveries - and none have
successfully refuted them.

It is therefore with confidence that I have spent a lifetime preparing his
Interlinear Bible Numeric Greek Outlined New Testament, the Bible Outlines,
and Greek Word Studies, for our Website. I believe I have received a
commission from God in 1945 to do so, following my introduction to Panin's
discoveries in 1944, shortly after He revealed Himself to me as a sailor in
Victoria, BC. Panin had just died two years before at 87 in Aldershot,
Ontario.

What more then can we say about the book of 1 Samuel? Note that his
mother's name was "Hannah," the Hebrew word for "grace." And indeed she was
a wife and mother of grace. "Anna" in the New Testament, of the tribe of
Asher, means the same in Greek. See how Samuel turned out with the mentoring
of such a mother!

Note also the importance of the "Ark of the Covenant" in this book. Some
looked upon it superstitiously. Others like David honored it as a true
"Icon" representing the presence of God. See how in 2 Samuel he made great
preparation to bring it to Jerusalem, the city of David and the city of God.

This book reveals the disappointment both God and Samuel had in the
children of Israel. They put carnal desires in a human king, above insight
that *God* was their true King! When Jesus returns, *He* will be Lord of
lords, and *King of kings*. And - He is David's *Greater Son*!

When Samuel anointed David as coming king by the word of the Lord, the
Spirit's anointing came upon the young lad of probably 17. Immediately he
started writing the Psalms. Of the 150, at least 73 were penned by him! He
also with Samuel established the worship of God in the Tabernacle, and then
following his death, it was transferred to the Temple under his son Solomon.

And what do you think of the 13 years of trouble David endured until
anointed king of Judah at the age of 30? (Note that Abraham, Joseph and
Paul, along with David - also had 13 years of testing!) But Scripture says -
"He that will live *godly* in Christ Jesus, *shall* suffer persecution~!"
This world is *no friend* of grace. Don't plan for heavenly success in this
present life! The fullness of the promises of God await the return - the
Second Coming of His Son - our Lord Jesus Christ.

I love 1 Samuel. I love all 66 books of the Bible - but most of all I love
the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the *Living Word*, of which the bible is but a
sacred page! Beyond the sacred page, we see *Thee* Lord!

Some may wonder concerning the *order* of these outlines, Greek Word
Studies, and Interlinear Greek New Testament. I believe that the five books
of Moses - Genesis through Deuteronomy, are the seed-plot of the Bible,
especially the Book of Genesis. They are types and shadows. They were
written especially for the Jews. However, the promises hinting at the "One
New Man" to come, though veiled, have been made clear by the Apostle Paul.
He claims that the hidden *mystery* in the Old Testament and Gospels, has
now been openly presented to the Church - the One New Man, composed of both
Jew and Gentile. I agree.

It is the New Testament we need to master as a church. Yet it cannot be
understood clearly apart from an adequate Old Testament understanding. *"The
New Testament is in the Old contained! The Old is by the New explained!*" It
is not either/or - it is both/and!

So I have followed the 54 sections of the books of Moses according to
Jewish Synagogue worship, and the basis of my daily Bible readings. One can
purchase a Messianic Jewish Calendar, and there these readings are listed
each year from a Christian perspecitve. Then I take the rest of the 61 books
and divide them up throughout the year, alternating them between an OT and a
NT book. Dr. J. Vernon McGee, a Presbyterian minister from California,
tipped me off to this. Then I take the Psalms and Proverbs, and take one a
day twice a year.

I do not find this arduous, but I find the Holy Spirit speaks to me almost
daily as I have my daily devotions. 1 Samuel is linked with the second half
of Genesis, and is followed by the Gospel of Luke. I do not get bogged down
in this exercise, but ever see the Lord clearer and clearer! I find my
spirit singing "Father, I thank You - Father, I thank You - Father in
heaven, I thank You." Then I address my thanks to Jesus, and also the Holy
Spirit, who indwells all serious believers on earth. Jim Watt
