 GOD’S GIFT: AN ARTESIAN WELL - 2002-06-17

*INTRODUCTION: *This Gift is the third baptism of the third foundation of
Hebrews 6:1-2.

John 4:10 (1-26).

*B. 4:1-42 SPIRIT-WITNESS AND SIGNS BRING SOULS TO JESUS*

*1. 4:1-26 JESUS REVEALS HIMSELF AS BAPTIZER IN HOLY SPIRIT*

*i. 4:10 CHRIST: A FOUNTAIN OF LIVING WATER*

*Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of :God,*

a-peKRIth*e* I*e*SOUS kai EIpen auT*E*, Ei *E*deis t*e*n d*o*-reAN
[1431]tou TheOU,

*and who it is that says to you, Give me to drink;*

kai TIS es-tin ho LEg*o*n soi, DOS moi pein;

*you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water.*

su an *E*t*e*-sas auTON, kai Ed*o*-ken AN soi HUd*o*r z*o*n [2198].

THE GIFT: A LIVING EXPERIENCE. The law of first reference is important.
Definition: The gift is an artesian well. It satisfies spiritual thirst. It
is the basis for true worship.

*THEME*: The Gift of the Father and the Son is a well of gushing water,
rivers of living water. This gift is called the “doreA,” and appears only
11 times in the New Testament. All references are given in this outline.

*One. ACTS 2:38 (37-42). THE GIFT: AND ITS CONDITIONS.*

*III. 2:1-47 THE THEOLOGY OF PENTECOST*

*6. 2:37-42 RESULTS OF CONVICTION*

*b. 2:38 THE PETER PACKAGE*

*And Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized each of you*

PEtros de pros auTOUS, Me-ta-no*E*sa-te [3340] kai bap-tisTH*E*t*o*

*and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.*

kai L*E*Mpses-the [2983] t*e*n d*o*-reAN [1431] tou HaGIou PNEUma-tos.

The atonement is its basis: first the blood and then the oil.

Repentance is a condition.

Water baptism is a prerequisite and condition.

Two. ACTS 8:20 (14-24). THE GIFT: AND ITS VALUE.

*IX. 8:4-40 RESULTS OF PERSECUTION: SPREADS EVANGELISM*

*A. 8:4-25 SAMARIA RECEIVED THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT*

*d. 8:20 SIMON REBUKED FOR PRICING THE HOLY SPIRIT*

*But Peter said unto him, Your :silver perish with you,*

It is equal to the life Jesus gave for it.

It is above value of silver or money.

It is dangerous to have a low conception of its value.

Three. ACTS 10:45 (44-48); 11:17 (1-18). THE GIFT: AN EVIDENCE OF
SALVATION.

*5. 10:44-48 GOD'S STARTLING ACCEPTANCE OF GENTILES*

*b. 10:45 THE GIFT ON GENTILES AMAZES JEWS*

*And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed,*

*B. 11:1-18 GOD'S SOVEREIGN CHOICE ACCEPTED BY JEWS*

*m. 11:17 PETER'S SOUND REASONING IN DEFENSE OF HIS ACTION*

*If then :God gave them the like gift as also to us,*

ei oun t*e*n Is*e*n d*o*-reAN [1431] Ed*o*-ken auTOIS ho TheOS h*o*s kai h*e

withstand :God?*

piSTEUsa-sin ePI ton KUri-on I*e*SOUN ChrisTON, eG*O* tis *E*m*e*n,
du-naTOS k*o*LUsai ton TheON?

The Spirit outpoured on Gentiles convinced the Jews.

The Spirit manifested in tongues convinced them.

The Spirit’s coming demanded baptism.

The Spirit’s acceptance demanded man’s acceptance.

The Spirit’s acceptance showed repentance was granted.

*Four. ROMANS 5:15, 17 (12-21). THE GIFT: AND ITS BLESSINGS.*

*II. 5-8 JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH: ITS OUTWORKING*

 *EDITORIAL NOTE: *

The above outline came to me in 1947 in Canora, Saskatchewan, where I
served as a student minister for the United Church of Canada.

It was the first of 100’s of Greek Word Studies prepared by my associate,
DFS and myself.

The format in its preparation came unexpectedly in a split second on a
Saturday of March 18, 1967. It took me two hours to write down the
instructions of preparation that the Holy Spirit gave me. He required a
merging of Englishman’s Greek Concordance, John Stegenga’s “The
Greek-English Analytical Concordance of the Greek-English New Testament,”
and Ivan Panin’s, “The New Testament from the Greek Text as established by
Bible Numerics,” and the English translation of it.

I have trained some one thousand how to use these 3 texts in doing this
labor of love. One of these was DSF, who did the greater part of the
legwork in the preparation of these word studies. I have at times passed on
his titles, and the Tentative Evaluation, but placed a disclaimer on some
of them. The text itself is inspired. Both his notes and mine are subject
to evaluation. We leave spaces so that you the reader can put in your own
titles and evaluation if you choose.

I have been using the English and Greek Numeric New Testaments of Ivan
Panin since 1945, and John Stegenga and Englishman’s Greek Concordance
since 1963. Over 40,000 hours have gone into this production. Our prayer is
that it might not only be a blessing to many of you, but that you may find
it an effective tool to pass truth on to others. J.A.Watt

 P.S. 2011.11.17 - I have inserted relevant portions of Panin's Interlinear
Greek NT above. The *Outlined* Interlinear Greek NT using Ivan Panin's
Bible Numeric Greek Text and translation are used practically as he had
them printed over 80 years ago. The *Outlined* aspect based on Panin's
discovery of the Bible Numeric sentence and paragraph structure is *unique*.
The Outlining is mine, and not inspired. I leave a space above each one, so
that you the reader can cross out mine when you deem it possible to
improve, and replace with your own. Panin's Bible Numeric Greek Text has
been transliterated according to the Berlitz method. All the above is to
help Laymen make use of what formerly has belonged to scholars having Greek
through Bible College and Seminary.

The Interlinear text should appear in print early in 2012. Keep in touch
with our Website *<www.2rbetter.org> *for this information. Click on
“Interlinear” on our Website; the complete Interlinear is there already,
plus notes on each mailing - that will not appear in the printed edition.
You will find that by using George Muller's example of *Bible
Meditation*over the Interlinear text -
*much* help from the Holy Spirit will then be available. J.
