Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his
brothers. And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day
forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.” </font></b><span style="font-weight:normal">Not
Samuel’s choice, but </span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">Your</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
choice prevailed, Father. Samuel accepted a prayer of relinquishment
to his choice, not one of resignation. He was like Jesus in “the

will but </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">Yours</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">

whenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the
lyre and played it with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well,

is demonstrated the power of good music. Here is also demonstrated
the willingness of Jesse to submit to the will of Saul concerning

wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a

anointing upon a man makes him bold for Your Name, Father! </span></span><b><i><span style="text-decoration:none">Your
:will be done, As in heaven, so on earth!</span></i></b></font></font></p>

(18:1-5) DAVID: LOVE COVENANT WITH JONATHAN. </span><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">“</span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">Then
Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own
soul. </span></font><font style="font-size:8pt" size="1"><span style="text-decoration:none">4
</span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">And
Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to
David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.”

in Your Name has its own reward, Father! O forgive us our fear of man
because we fail to seek You with all our heart, and become people
after Your own heart! </span></span><b><i><span style="text-decoration:none">Our

18:8 (18:6-30) DAVID: PERSECUTION FROM SAUL COMMENCES. </span><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">“And
Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, ‘They
have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed
thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?’” </span></font></b><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">The
women got David into trouble. A man of the flesh becomes jealous and
fear</span></span><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">s</span></span><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
a man of the Spirit. Unreasonable persecution becomes the inevitable
result. </span></span><b><i><span style="text-decoration:none">And
forgive us our :debts, As we also have forgiven our :debtors.</span></i></b></font></font></p>

19:18 (19) DAVID: PERSECUTED VIOLENTLY BY SAUL. </span><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">“Now
David fled and escaped, and he came to Samuel at Ramah and told him
all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and lived at
Naioth.” </span></font></b><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">We
are inclined to play God and take vengeance into our own hands. This
is unwise and unnecessary. </span></span><b><i><span style="text-decoration:none">And
bring us not into temptation.</span></i></b></font></font></p>

20:14-15 (20) DAVID: LOVE COVENANT CONFIRMED WITH JONATHAN. </span><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">“</span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">If
I am still alive, show me the steadfast love of the LORD, that I may
not die; </span></font><font style="font-size:8pt" size="1"><span style="text-decoration:none">15</span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">
and do not cut off your steadfast love from my house forever, when
the LORD cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of
the earth.” </span></font></b><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">Thank
You Father, that in the midst of persecution, You raise up a Jonathan
to encourage and strengthen us: even by the son of our persecutor!
</span></span><b><i><span style="text-decoration:none">But deliver
us from the evil </span></i><span style="text-decoration:none">one!</span></b></font></font></p>

20:42a (20) DAVID: JONATHAN’S BLESSING UPON HIM. </span><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">Then
Jonathan said to David, ‘Go in peace, because we have sworn both of
us in the name of the LORD, saying, “The LORD shall </span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">be
</span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">between
me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring, forever.”’
</span></font></b><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">This
is much like the priestly blessing upon Israel in Number 6:24-26.</span></span></font></font></p>

<font face="Palatino Linotype, serif"><font style="font-size:11pt" size="2"><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">Consider
the Sovereignty of our God as it concerns the life of David. Nothing
was unusual about the life of David until God in His Sovereignty se</span></span><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">n</span></span><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">t
Samuel to anoint David as king of Israel. Immediately the Spirit of
God came </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">upon</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
him! Immediately he received boldness to kill a lion and a bear who
threatened his father’s sheep - and later Goliath! Immediately he
received the heavenly inspiration to write Psalms unto the Lord.</span></span></font></font></p>
<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none" align="LEFT">

<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none" align="LEFT">
<font face="Palatino Linotype, serif"><font style="font-size:11pt" size="2">These
anointed Psalms captivated the heart of Charles Spurgeon. When he
finished writing a commentary on each of the Psalms (though David
only wrote but half of them), his heart was saddened - because of the
great blessing he had received during this writing. It was also
Spurgeon’s conviction - as well as that of many others - that David
was the author of Psalm 119. In the “Treasury of David” by
Spurgeon, he gives his reason for this conclusion.</font></font></p>
<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none" align="LEFT">

<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal" align="LEFT">
<font face="Palatino Linotype, serif"><font style="font-size:11pt" size="2"><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">Note
also, that the anointing of God upon us brings for the enmity and
persecution of Satan through human beings. He who lies godly in
Christ Jesus - </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">shall</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
suffering persecution. It is as sure as night follows day. And this
is the permissive blessing of God - for through the pressure of
persecution, we find ourselves becoming more Christ-like!</span></span></font></font></p>
<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none" align="LEFT">

<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal" align="LEFT">
<font face="Palatino Linotype, serif"><font style="font-size:11pt" size="2"><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">Then
see the seriousness of “covenant”. Saul did not so consider it.
He </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">broke</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
the covenant Joshua made with the Gibeonites - which </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">God
also</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
honored. It took David to discover this breach, make it right, and
lift the famine off of Israel.</span></span></font></font></p>
<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:none" align="LEFT">

<p style="margin-top:0.01in;margin-bottom:0in;font-style:normal" align="LEFT">
<font face="Palatino Linotype, serif"><font style="font-size:11pt" size="2"><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">The
covenant between Jonathan and David - David honored following the
death of Saul and Jonathan. David as king - inquired concerning
Jonathan’s progeny. When he discovered Mephibosheth, son of
Jonathan, he treated him at the king’s table - just as he would
have to Jonathan himself. </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">This</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
is covenant. This God would have each of us to understand, and
faithfully walk in covenant also. Our </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">word</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
is like a covenant. He that swears to his own hurt (Psalm 15:4) </span></span><u><span style="font-weight:normal">and
changes not</span></u><span style="text-decoration:none"><span style="font-weight:normal">
- is a covenant keeper! Are we too careful to follow through on our
promises? If not, we are promising clouds - that drop no rain!</span></span></font></font></p>

Psalm for the day: 146:7b-9 PUT NOT YOUR TRUST IN PRINCES. </span><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">“The
LORD sets the prisoners free; </span></font><font style="font-size:8pt" size="1"><span style="text-decoration:none">8
</span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">the
LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are
bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous. </span></font><font style="font-size:8pt" size="1"><span style="text-decoration:none">9
</span></font><font size="3"><span style="text-decoration:none">The
LORD watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the
