 *MAR 12 - LUKE 23:56b-24:53 - SUNDAY: THE RESURRECTION*


 *1. 24:6-7 (23:56b-24:11) JESUS' RESURRECTION: REPORTED TO WOMEN. “He is
not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke to you when he was yet in
:Galilee, 7 saying that the Son of :man must be delivered up into sinful
men's hands, and be crucified, and the third day rise again” (NNT). *What a
message from the angels! What wonder, consternation and joy must have been
in the minds of these women!* Hallowed be your :name.*


 *2. 24:12 JESUS' RESURRECTION: MISUNDERSTOOD BY PETER. “But :Peter arose,
and ran unto the tomb; and stooping over, he sees the linen cloths by
themselves; and he departed to his home, wondering at what was come to
pass.” *Apart from divine understanding and revelation, we cannot see things
from Your point of view, Father. Peter should have known because of the
prophetic words of Jesus. *Your :kingdom come.*


 *3. 24:25-27 (24:13-32) JESUS' RESURRECTION: REVEALED TO MR. & MRS.
CLEOPAS. “And HE said unto them, O foolish, and slow of :heart to believe in
all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Behooved it not the Christ to suffer
these things, and to enter into his :glory? 27 And beginning from Moses and
from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the
things concerning himself.” *Ah, here it is. In the breaking of the Bread,
Father, Your Son Jesus was revealed to these two! Every time You give us our
daily bread, may it be blessed to us with fresh revelation of You! *Your
:will be done, As in heaven, so on earth.*


 *4. 24:34-35 (24:33-35) JESUS' RESURRECTION: CONFIRMED BY PETER & CLEOPAS.
[They said that], “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to
Simon. 35And THEY rehearsed the
happenings on the way, and how he was known of them in the breaking of the
bread.” *O forgive us Father, for being so slow to believe all things
concerning Your Son Jesus! We hear, and we do not believe. We see, and then
slowly faith seeps in. *Our :daily :bread Give us this day.*


 *5. 24:39-40 (24:36-43) JESUS: REVEALS HIS RESURRECTION BODY! “See my
:hands and my :feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; because a
spirit has not flesh and bones, as you behold me having. 40 And when he had
said this, he showed them his :hands and :feet.” *When the invisible becomes
visible; when heaven is manifested on earth; when Your Kingdom Father,
becomes “Now”; then let us be sensitive and understand what we hear and see!
*And forgive us our :debts, As we also have forgiven our :debtors!*


 *6. 24:49 (24:44-49) JESUS: RELATES HIS RESURRECTION TO SCRIPTURES. “And
lo, I send forth the promise of my :Father upon you: but tarry YOU in the
city, until you be clothed with power from on high.” *Here is the secret,
Father: the indwelling of the Spirit of Christ! We are *not* living letters
and witnesses apart from this experience. Only then are You able to take and
use us! *And bring us not into temptation!*


 *7. 24:50-51 (24:50-53) JESUS: HIS ASCENSION. “And he led them out until
over against Bethany: and he lifted up his :hands, and blessed them. 51 And
it came to pass, while he :blessed them, he parted from them, and was
carried up into :heaven.” *This was not an idle gesture or symbol of
blessing, but a reality (Habakkuk 3:4). Father, we bless You for the present
reality of Your Kingdom. *But deliver us from the evil one!*


 *NOTE**: 24:31-32 (24:13-32) JESUS: EFFECT OF RESURRECTED STATE ON CLEOPAS
& FRIEND. “And their :eyes were opened, and they knew him; and HE vanished
out of their sight. **32 And they said one unto another, Was not our :heart
burning, while he spoke to us in the way, as he opened to us the
scriptures?” *Yes, Father! This ought to be our experience daily, whenever
the Spirit of Christ takes the written word and transforms it into a living
word of understanding!


 Dr. Donald Gray Barnhouse was minister of the Tenth Presbyterian Church of
Philadelphia in the 40's and 50's - and often President Charles W. Koller of
Northern Baptist Theological Seminary of Chicago would have him as guest
speaker at our Chapel service. He usually made our 400 students either “mad
or glad!” Neutral we could not be! He was the one who said, “If you have a
plaque at home saying, 'Prayer Changes Things'; go home and turn it to the
wall! Prayer *doesn't* change things! Prayer changes *you*!”


 He was also the one who said, “Though the Scriptures only name Cleopas as
one of the two leaving Jerusalem and joined by Jesus following His
resurrection - it is quite reasonable to deduce his partner to be Mrs.
Cleopas!” He did not say a “Thus saith the Lord” for this; and neither do I
- though it might possibly be!


 Next to Jesus being our Passover on Calvary - comes His Resurrection. 1
Corinthians 15 clearly states that Jesus would have died in vain had He not
been resurrected - and our faith would be in vain! Jesus' Resurrection is
therefore an integral part of His death! As a matter of fact, the early
Christian greeting was not, “Jesus died;” - but “Jesus is Risen!” “He is
risen indeed!”


 Luke 24 not only includes these too critical events, but also Jesus'
Ascension, with a promise of His soon gift of the Holy Spirit to replace
Him! All these 4 events took place within a 50-day time-frame. As a matter
of fact, in God's 7 Feasts of Leviticus 23 which He gave to Israel -
Passover/Resurrection and Pentecost are integrally tied together in the
50-day counting of the Omer, saying that Passover and Resurrection are *not
complete* until Pentecost! Acts 2:38 has been called “The Peter Package” by
one - again showing that until the Holy Spirit as a gift (d*o*-reA) is
received *subsequent* to water baptism, we are *not complete*!


 Then see how careful the apostles were in the book of Acts to baptize
converts immediately following their repentance and faith; and then to
follow this up with the laying on of hands for the gift (do-reA) of the Holy
Spirit. Why is it then that many Evangelical Christians do not follow this
apostolic order?


 And now our Psalm for the day! *72:6, 8 (72:1-20) GIVE THE KING YOUR
JUSTICE! “May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers
that water the earth! 8 May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the
River to the ends of the earth” (ESV)! *King Jesus: Reign in us! Father, we
bless You for Your Son as King of Your Kingdom! On July 1, 1867 the Premier
of New Brunswick during his early morning devotions was given Psalm 72:8 to
find the name for the *Dominion* of Canada. This verse appears in Ottawa,
the capital of Canada, at the National Parliament Buildings. It was 128
years later on July 1st at Whistler, BC, that Freda Cooper, granddaughter of
Chief of the Coast Salish First Nations People - led some 20 tribes of her
people in restoring vertical relationship with God. This was followed with
2200 representatives from 37 countries restoring horizontal relations with
the First Nations People. A representative of Britain, Canada and the United
States each knelt, apologized and asked forgiveness for the sins of their
people against the host people of this great land of Canada and the United
States. Some 500 to 800 nations are represented by this host people. This
128th Anniversary in 1995 is two to the 7th power! David Mainse of 100
